Anti snoring pillow, nasal strips, and mouthpiece – snoring treatments to help you rest.
If you are bothered by snoring problems, I am certain that this is keeping you from getting proper sleep that you desperately need. I fall asleep numerous times during the day when I am not suppose to, and lately my sleepiness has even started to affect my job performance. The worst part is that its affecting people around. I wake up my wife a lot to a point where she needs to wake up and roll me over so she can get back to sleep. I decided that enough was enough and went online to look for snoring and the various snoring treatments used to help people beat this problem in order to sleep better at night. I found several anti-snoring products that looked promising, including a mouthpiece, snoring pillow and nasal strips. I tried out each of these products soundly and below I have summarized my findings:
Nasal strips
When snoring is caused by congestion or any type of blockage from the nasal path, nasal strips are an excellent and effective way to reduce your snoring. The strip is rigid and bendable, and sticks to your nose via adhesive. It pulls your nostrils open, allowing for a much clearer path for air to go in and out of your nose and reducing any vibration. Although these strips can be rather effective for nasal snoring, some users complain than they can be softly uncomfortable. I personally felt a little weird at first, but after a few minutes I got used to the feeling and the strips did curb my snoring and I was able to sleep better. Also, keep in mind that nasal strips are only effective for when snoring is caused by a nasal blockage, which accounts for only a small percentage of all snoring issues. More often, snoring originates from the base of the tongue or soft palate, in which case you will have to go with a different treatment.
Mouthpiece (also called mandibular advancement splint)
With an anti snoring mouthpiece, snoring is reduced by altering the alignment of the jaw while you are asleep. Soft tissues in the throat can break down while sleeping and jam the airway, and the vibration of these tissues is what causes the snoring. By bringing the jaw forward and lifting the soft palate with a mouthpiece, the airway can be opened up more so the tissues aren’t so loose, thus reducing the vibration. Another cause of snoring is the tongue falling back to the throat, so keeping the jaw aligned in this way will help. There are several over the counter mouthpieces available and you can also visit your dentist and have one custom made. Other options are going to be very expensive, but mouthpiece made specifically for your month is already very effective at reducing snoring.
Anti-snoring pillow
As with a mouthpiece, snoring can be reduced with a special pillow by aligning the breathing passage for optimum air passage. There are a couple types of snoring pillows; the first one elevates your head and neck and lifts the chin up so tissues don’t hang loosely in the throat and cause vibration. The second type is specifically designed for extra comfort when sleeping on your side. It is evident that sleeping on side dramatically reduce snoring, as it prevents the blockage of the throat. So these pillows are extremely effective.
But overall, please do remember that there are several factors that causes snoring that includes smoking, drinking, and obesity. So improving overall health should always be your first option, and stay away from the things mentioned as those are the factors causing obstructions in the throat. The above products are extremely effective for a short term relief, and helping you get better sleep. Whether you go with a mouthpiece, snoring pillow, or nasal strips, make sure to consult with your doctor for the best short-term and long-term snoring treatment solutions.
