Rheumatoid Arthritis Diet

A  rheumatoid arthritis diet becomes important for a person who suffers from this condition. There is no known cure for this condition, however, there are things that sufferers can do to ensure that they have a better chance in dealing with it and managing it better.

The symptoms of this condition can make life very difficult for people who have to live with it on a daily basis. For some it can be very uncomfortable and painful, as it comes with swelling, inflammation, damage to the joints and pain. But changes in the diet can help alleviate the pain associated with this disease so that sufferers can go on with their lives and still be able to be productive and live almost pain free.

The rheumatoid arthritis diet is by no means a cure, it does however alleviate the symptoms, which is the main focus here.

When we eat good healthy foods, our bodies get nourished with nutrients, vitamins and minerals, which improves our health. However, for the most part we do not get enough of these nutrients, minerals and vitamins that are needed to ensure that our bodies function optimally. The diet plays a major role, and that also involves the fats that are consumed. Good fats are important for people who have rheumatoid arthritis, because they are anti inflammatory. This means that the inflammation that comes with the arthritis is relieved and alleviated by eating the right kind of fats.

Foods that are encouraged for rheumatoid arthritis sufferers include foods that are high in anti oxidants. These include foods such as sweet potatoes, leafy green vegetables. Carrots should also be included in the grocery shopping, and olive oil or canola oil should be the fats of choice as they are high in omega 3 fatty acids.

As much as there are foods that relieve the symptoms of this condition, on the other side of the coin there are foods that one should stay away from, as they encourage the symptoms that come with the condition. Foods to stay away from include dairy products, wheat products, fruits that are citrus including citrus juice, potatoes and a few others.

People with this condition need to reduce the foods that they eat that contain a lot of salt. The same goes for eating foods that contain refined sugar, these foods should be limited in their intake.

For most of these foods, people do not have to necessarily stop eating them completely, it is all about reducing the intake. At times, the effects have to be watched closely just to be able to determine the kind of quantities that one is supposed to eat.

The rheumatoid arthritis diet has been laid out, it will not treat the condition, but it will help get rid of the pain and the discomfort that is associated with this condition. You can manage your pain, just by implementing these diet changes.
