Enabling The Kids To Participate In A Family Profession
If you have your own company, putting your children to work in the household business makes a lot of sense. Not only are kids not apart of some of the tax and labor laws when participating in a family owned business in many places, but giving the kids a feeling of ownership can take them a long way when the family endeavor passes to their hands at some point.
Keep in mind your child's age as you start to employ them in the household endeavor. Even young kids can take part doing simple tasks such as copying papers. As they mature, kids can organize papers, file, help prepare shipments, keep inventory of credit, send faxes and more.
Be tolerant as they learn and explain tasks clearly. You understand your kid better than anyone, so think about whether she or he can follow different directions at once, or if one task assigned at one time is a better fit. If your kid can read well, have that child do more complicated tasks and leave the simpler tasks to a younger kid.
While hiring your kids could ultimately save you cash, be sure you pay them a reasonable wage for the job they do. Help your kids to save a little of what they earn and give some of what they earn to a charity. But allow them to have at least some of the cash they've worked for to spend however they want to. This gives children a stronger desire to work and a smaller desire to survive off of credit. Everyone needs rewards, but children really have a need for at least some instant gratification.
Be patient and realize that children are still children. There might be days when you've got a deadline to meet and your child just wants to fool around. Or there may be times when you just can't get your kids to focus. On these days, do your best to make them realize the task at hand and that there is something to be done first. Once the job is finished, take time to play, and chill out and enjoy your children. They have to know you're a mom or dad first, and the manager second.
Use work time to teach your kids the joy of making an income, and the requirement and methods of managing money. In addition, help them to become dependable employees, develop a strong work ethic, and know the value of a project done right.
Putting the children to work in the family business may help you, as a sole proprietor, get help you need to finish necessary tasks. But, it will also give your kids a taste of the workplace and assist them in understanding the value of money management. That way when they get older, they will stay away from debt and credit problems. That is a much easier thing to ascertain when money is made rather than given.
